Late Shri Ghanashyam Pandit, the farsighted legal luminary of the then Saurashtra region established Shri Saurashtra High School, the first private school at Rajkot. This academic venture accomplished with individual responsibility without any help from the Agency Government served the social need of the time and so the school gradually prospered amidst countless challenges and difficulties.
From 1914, Late Shri Bahadurbhai Dholakia, the legendary educational missionary took over the administration of the school. Late Shri Ratibhai Dholakia joined hands with Shri Bahadurbhai in 1921. Both these academic stalwarts faced the challenges of running the school singlehandedly with courage and fortitude, and without even slightly tarnishing the image of their dignity and dedication.
Many a generation of students blossomed in the rental building of the school in Sadar area of Rajkot.
This alma matar of countless students most illustrious among them are late Shri U. N. Dhebar, the first Chief Minister of Saurashtra and the eminent lawyer and unique diplomat late Shri Jaysukhlal Hathi, made rapid strides under the dynamic, selfless and noble administration of late Shri Vijaybhai Dholakia from 1954 to 1990. Shri Vijaybhai with active guidance from Shri Jaysukhlal Hathi succeeded in procuring land for the school on Kalawad Road area of Rajkot and in 1972 the secondary section of the school was shifted to the school’s own campus.
The explosion of the social need of education and the overflowing institutional good will not only urged, but even compelled the school to extend its scope of physical amenities from time to time. At every milestone of our onward march our patrons from far and near have warmly responded to our call for help.
The Higher secondary section was introduced in 1972. Since then the school’s science stream has carved a niche for itself in the area of higher secondary institutions of Rajkot
Unceasing strivings for institutional betterment took unbearable toll of Shri Vijaybhai’s life in March, 1990. His only concern was the development of the school until his last.
Fortunately a few zealous, prominent, dedicated and strong-willed dignitaries of Rajkot have taken upon themselves to continue the school’s onward march and to materialize incomplete dreams of Shri Vijaybhai.
